Apart from directing the Family Care Group Ministry he periodically preaches at the evening chapel services held at the Central Union Mission in Washington, DC, and also conducts prayer meetings every Saturday evening at Triumphant.
Brother Chidi spends most of his time searching into the scriptures and trying to learn more about God from the example of Jesus the Christ.
Minister CHARLES BENJAMIN HOUSTON was born in Washington D.C. on June 6, 1984 to Dorothea and George Cornell Houston, Jr. At an early age he joined Embry A.M.E. Church where he grew up performing in many of the Sunday school programs, participating at the Potomac District Sunday School conventions and singing on the Future Generations choir. In June of 2000, he joined Triumphant and continued his journey with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ under the leadership of Pastor T. L. Rogers.
Charles attended Paint Branch elementary school and was a member of the Lakeland Stars. There he received many academic awards for academic and civic achievements. In the fifth grade he traveled as an unattended minor to Frankfort, Germany to visit his surrogate aunt and uncle for four weeks. He went on to attend Martin Luther King Middle School. While attending King Middle School he sang with the award winning Maryland Boy Choir. The choir won a Grammy award for their 1995 performance with the National Symphony Orchestra at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C. in 2000. Charles graduated from St. John's College High School in Washington, D C. with honors in 2002. There he rose to the rank of JROTC Major responsible for public relations. At graduation he received the Principal's Award for academic and civic achievements. When it was time for him to go to college there was only one choice, Morehouse College in Atlanta, Georgia, the school of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. He received an Army ROTC scholarship to Georgia Tech University later the regiment was transferred to Georgia State University and he was offered ROTC scholarships to Temple and Howard University.
Currently he is a senior at Morehouse College majoring in Religion and his minor is psychology with an overall 3.5 GPA. He was elected president of the chapel assistants at the Martin Luther King International Chapel in May 2005. He is the second vice president for the Southern Christian Leadership Conference on the campus of Morehouse and chaplain for the Morehouse community service council. He is cross enrolled at Georgia State University's ROTC program where he participates on the Ranger Challenge team, color guard and is a member of Scabbard and Blade military honor society.
He has preached in Atlanta, Ga. and at Triumphant. At Triumphant he preached the pre-Thanksgiving service in 2003, and recently preached his trial sermon in September 2004. On December 26, 2004, Pastor T.L. Rogers and the ministers of the church granted Charles Houston his license to preach the Gospel.
Upon graduation in 2006, he will be commissioned as a second lieutenant in the U.S. Army where he plans to further serve God by eventually going into the Chaplain core after he attends seminary school. He plans to get a master's degree and eventually a doctorate in pastoral counseling. Truly this is a testimony to God's faithfulness and to God be the glory.
